Tasks:
Maneuvering Exercise
  • Drive the ROV through a series of hoops
    • Hoop diameter: 58 cm
  • Emulates having to drive an ROV through tight spaces in the ocean
  • Time limit: maximum 3 minutes
  • Priority: High, because we can't do anything if we can’t drive
    • We’ll tackle it using motors/pumps to move the ROV

Plugging Oil Spills
  • Cap the small plastic container which represents an oil spill. Oil spills are devastating to the environment and often ROVs can be used to plug leaking pipes
  • Time Limit: 3 minutes


  • Cap weighs >210 G
  • Middling priority task
    • Want to go about it using a hook strong enough to pick cap up


Schwroctopus
  • Retrieve the Schworoctopuses for reaserch
    • The Schworoctopus is a small marine animal that lives in the benthic environment
  • 58.13 g
  • Priority: Middling
  • Time Limit: 4 minutes
  • Want to go about it using a hook strong enough to retrieve the Schwroctopus

Coral
  • The objective of this challenge is to relocate the endangered coral species to another designated area
  • 40.13 g
  • We have a maximum of four minutes to complete the challenge
  • For every specimen successful moved, one point given to the team
  • Priority: Lower
    • Want to go about it using a hook strong enough to retrieve the Coral
