Today, we officially started working and were assigned the roles we would take on making the ROV. I believe this really helped by getting tasks started and starting off the next day on the right foot. Talking about the different roles and what each of us were interested in was a great way of gauging where everyone wanted to start and what we wanted to do. I have been assigned with designing the ROV and making its basic structure as well as possibly adding any other necessary parts the team and I deem necessary. On our next work day, I will focus on researching additional ROVs and what enables them to be effective. I will also be starting on producing a sketch or design on the ROV.
Our first day of work was pretty efficient and everyone was working on their assigned task!
We also experimented with some ROVs to get a sense of how they worked and what we can do for our own.
Day 2: 8 May, 2017
Now with all our jobs assigned to us, we began working on our assigned roles and getting familiar with the equipment we will be using for our ROV. Today, I worked on building the prototype of what the ROV might look like. It's still a work in process! I have built the rough structure of it in class, but I plan to add more features and make a sturdier design for it.
Day 3: 10 May, 2017
Another working day for all of us. The prototype is coming along nicely so far, but there are a few adjustments that need to be made. I have a solid idea of what I want and I'm actually almost done finalizing it. I have had to change my ideas from time to time, but I now know what I need to do and just need a little more time to finish everything up. Everybody else was working hard on their parts and we are making progress on the ROV. I can't wait to finally put it all together and see it work.
Day 4: 12 May, 2017
I've got the design of the ROV done and have the prototype finalized! I worked on the sketch all class period and it took up a lot of time. Next class, I will purchase all the parts and begin making the ROV! I was worried that the design wouldn't be built soon enough, but everything is running smoothly now and we all just need to finish up our tasks.
Day 5: 15 May, 2017
Our team lead and blogger were not able to make it today, causing a delay in the progress of the control box and the motor and propeller. All in all, we got a lot done today! I purchased the necessary tools to make the actually ROV and began cutting the appropriate size of the pieces. It was nice to build the ROV with parts that actually fit and made the process of building go much faster. Cutting the pieces took a little while, but it was a new experience for me and was quite enjoyable. I attached all the parts together and the ROV is not officially made. Henry worked on the motor and propellers and it was surprising how much we got done. It was very productive. Now, I am waiting for the control box, propellers, and motor to finish so we can start assembling and test it out.
